Free Uber Rides in Arizona to Make a Safer Holiday

December 22, 2015 by Editorial Staff

Getting home after a holiday party just got a bit easier in Arizona. The rideshare company Uber has partnered with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to introduce customers to the service with a free ride during the holiday season.

Anyone in Arizona new to Uber can claim their free ride.

The holidays are notorious for sending drunk drivers onto the roads. Many people who wouldn’t normally drive while impaired seem to make bad decisions once they start attending too many holiday parties and have more than the usual amount to drink. There’s just too much cheer around, and the result is a “what the heck” attitude that causes people to get behind the wheel when they shouldn’t.

Taxis and rideshare companies are the antidote to the plague of drunk driving, and Uber is trying to inoculate as many new customers as possible. The thought is that drivers who are familiar with the service will be more likely to use it.

  • Download the Uber app and register
  • Enter the promo code FREETRIP

The promo earns a $20 credit toward a ride. Quite often that’s enough for an entire trip. Uber will also be donating five dollars to MADD for every person who takes advantage of the offer. So those who do will not only take themselves off the road, they’ll also be helping educate others about the dangers of drunk driving, and helping victims as well through that organization.

The County Attorney’s office will be helping to publicize the offer, in order to make sure that as many people as possible know about it.

If you’re in Arizona and have never used Uber, here’s a great chance to get to know the service and do yourself and society a favor, by enjoying a free ride home and keeping the state’s roads a little bit safer this holiday season.
