Your dog could use a walk this Saturday. So could you. And you both could be helping make Arizona’s roads safer while you get some air and stretch your legs. This Saturday Tucson hosts the most recent Walk Like MADD, an event designed to raise funds for and awareness of drunk driving in the state.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has two missions: to end drunk driving and to support the victims of what it correctly terms a violent crime. The organization achieves the first by working to pass more effective anti-drunk-driving legislation, including all-offender ignition interlock laws, no-refusal laws, and automatic license suspension (ALS) for those arrested for drunk driving. It also promotes awareness of drunk driving issues through various events. And the organization works for victims, raising funds, assisting with aid applications, and providing support in a number of ways.
This year Reid Park Country Club will be where the Walk Like MADD event kicks off. Families of victims will be present, along with concerned citizens, and representatives from law enforcement and nonprofit organizations connected with public safety efforts.
You can help further this vital cause by signing up as a walker, team captain, or volunteer. You can even be involved without attending the event by signing up as a virtual walker, or by making a donation to another walker or team. You can find more information about registering here.
Let’s not forget dogs. The Tucson Walk Like MADD event is dog-friendly. So bring the most important member of your family, and walk so that one day no one will ever be, or know, a victim of a drunk driving crash.
